Next LYONS NJ VAMC PTSD Visit is December 9th
Monday, November 16, 2009
This is an early reminder to mark your calendars to welcome the Lyons VAMC PTSD patients when they visit the Wall on Wednesday, December 9. It will be rain or shine as it has been every 6 weeks this year.
Again, we’ll meet by the benches near the 3 soldiers statue before their ETA of 1130. In addition to vets from Vietnam their group usually vets from Iraq and Afghanistan and other conflicts (male and female).
This time we will follow the routine that was used on September 16. After they do their ceremony, they will ask whether any of the OEF and OIF vets want to go to Arlington National Cemetery. If they do, their bus will go and some of us will join them. After a brief visit there it will return to the Wall to pick up the rest of the vets.
As we did all of the prior times, our role will be to support the program that the VA will have at The Wall by welcoming the vets and engaging them in conversation. Where it goes will depend on the needs of each patient so there is no predicting how it will be. So far, all the visits have worked out very well and have been appreciated by those in the PTSD program.
Please wear your VVA hat, clothing, pins, etc. Bring a camera if you desire.
Please encourage other VVA and AVVA members to be there too, as well as any other veteran’s organization members or supporters. If you have a mailing list, please send them a blast (ditto for Facebook and the like). Also, please reach out to other vets that you know, regardless of the conflict, especially combat vets and IOF/IEF vets. Please feel free to send them a personal email telling them what we are doing, how it was when you went previously, etc. December 9 is the final date for 2009. I don’t have 2010 dates yet.
Finally, please let me know if you are going to attend.
